Fancast no more, Green Lantern fans! HBO Max has found the first of it’s lead Lanterns, Guy Gardner, who will played by…
Finn Wittrock! The American Horror Story actor will play the angriest Lantern in HBO Max’s forthcoming Green Lantern series, produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. The news was reported by Deadline earlier today. There is no indication yet as to if the actor will rock Guy’s infamous bowl haircut.
The show will be written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Seth Grahame-Smith and promises to re-invent the galaxy and decades-spanning story of the Lanterns, beginning with the secretly gay Alan Scott (an FBI agent) before jumping forward to 1984 and introducing Wittrock’s Guy Gardner and the half-alien Bree Jarta, Over the course of the series, they’ll be joined by other Lanterns, including some fan-faves as well as GL’s never before seen.
Gardner was something of a figure of fun for heroes, especially during his time in the Justice League (the above image is taken from #63 of that series). He’s angry, patriotic, bad tempered… yet somehow remains a popular character.
The show will be executive produced by Berlanti, Guggenheim and Grahame-Smith along with Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden and David Katzenberg. Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi are on board as co-executive producers. We’ll have more on Green Lantern as it develops.
