Marvel Studios has found it’s two directors for Secret Invasion, the latest show scheduled for Disney +.
As originally reported by THR Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim will helm the series. Selim previously worked on the 9/11 drama The Looming Tower for Hulu. Bezucha directed the Kevin Costner-starring Let Him Go last year.
Beruzcha’s Let Him Go has been lauded as a modern-day western, with Costner and Dian Lane playing grieving grandparents who try to rescue their deceased son’s lover and the couple’s child from their son’s girlfriend’s criminal in-laws. Beruzcha adapted the script from Larry Watson’s novel.
Egyptian / American film-maker Selim has worked on many television thrillers In Treatment, Hand of God, and Manhunt, among others. On the 2018 series The Looming Tower, he served as story editor (the series was created by Dan Futterman and Alex Gibney). The show was a highly respected drama and received several Emmy nominations.
The duo will direct stars including Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn (returning to play Nick Fury and Talos), as well as Olivia Coleman, Emilia Clarke and Kingsley Ben-Adir. Like the comic event it takes it’s name from, Secret Invasion will feature the shape-shifting Skrulls, who in the original story had infiltrated earth by replacing some of it’s greatest heroes - including some of the Fantastic Four and The Avengers. Beyond that, no plot details have been released. The Comics were created by Brian Michael Bendis, Lenil Francis Yu, Mark Morales, Laura Martin and Chris Eliopoulos.
The series will be executive-produced by Kyle Bradstreet, who is also writing. At present, it’s unknown how many episodes each director will helm although sources have stated that it will either be three / three or four / two. Marvel hasn’t commented on the hiring of the directors yet. Bezucha is repped by Verve and Myman Greenspan. Selim is repped by APA, Writ-Large, and Jackoway Austen. We’ll have more on this series as it happens.
