The comic is the story of Erica Slaughter who battles monsters in rural America, whilst conversing with a stuffed animal, who seems to communicate back to her.
The comic began life as a mini-series but was quickly promoted to an ongoing by Boom Studios after it proved to be one of the year’s best sellers, with the first issue selling over 175,000 copies and the series selling over 1.2 Million copies since 2019, putting it on par with Marvel and DC. The show is currently in early development, Macy would operate as show-runner. Flannegan may direct the series.
The comic was awarded an Eisner for best new series in 2020 as well as Harvey and Ringo awards. The first collected volume of the original five issues has been reprinted four times. The incredible success of this indie title is drawing parallels with The Walking Dead.
We’ll have more on this as it develops.
