Article by Paul Dunne
Miami Vice is easily the most underrated of director Michael Mann's films. The policier, loosely adapting the hit 80's television series Mann had a hand in creating and producing, was largely ignored. Since then, its reputation has grown, arguably because audiences have caught up with all the style and methods Mann applied to the film. Now, the British label 88 Films, which specialises in genre releases, are to bring Mann's Director's Cut of Miami Vice to Blu-Ray in the UK for the first time.
This version of the film, which has only previously been available in the US, includes 7 additional minutes of footage. 88 Films are also adding the original theatrical cut to the package, as well as some brand-new extras!
The release will also include a 20-page booklet, with new writing on Miami Vice by writer and film-maker, Sean Hogan. Hogan also appears on a brand-new commentary track for the film with James Mottram, who has written two books on Christopher Nolan.
To round out the array of extras (some imported over from previous releases), a new documentary featuring several crew members from the film and critics.
