A 13-Year-old girl’s father is dead – murdered by the world’s greatest spy.

She’s left with only her father’s robot bodyguard and a choice: Lead a normal life, probably for the first time ever or take revenge and in the process change the world order!

It’s a lot for a thirteen-year-old kid.

But this is what Annalise, the protagonist of ‘We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us’, a six-issue series, dropping in March from Image Comics, will have to face.

Matt Rosenberg, one half of the team behind the book has a lot going on, too – although not quite as much as Annalise. Rosenberg, whom we last spoke to way back in 2020 when he was pitting Clint Barton against the Hood in Hawkeye: Freefall, has been in Dublin recently, where 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank, one of his earlier creator-owned hits drawn by artist Tyler Boss who has a new book coming out in March), is being put to film starring Liam Neeson and Jack Dylan Grazer. From there, he spoke to the Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news about this new book:

There’s only so many great motivating factors in stories and the most powerful ones are love and revenge, so when you can have a story that has both… We wanted to do a pretty brutal revenge story that has a lot of love and compassion and see how those ideas touch each other.”

‘We’ is Rosenberg and Stefano Landini, the artist and co-creator of We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us. Landini was set to reunite with Rosenberg on a different title for Marvel back in 2021. But COVID-19 shut down the world and that Marvel book with it, as well as delaying the final issue of Hawkeye: Freefall, Landini called Rosenberg “Stefano called and said ‘Why don’t we do our own book?’ And he said I wanted to do something with a robot. Then he sent me a robot design. Stefano and I wanted to tell a fun story about our favourite things—super-spies, mad scientists, robots, family, and revenge. What we ended up making somehow became much funnier, more heartfelt, and far weirder than what we set out to do.”

For Landini, the story is “an adventure that in some ways recalls the James Bond of the ’70s, a Tokusatsu, but which is set in an imaginary world in which humanity coexists with robots, exoskeletons and futuristic weapons. I started from what I am passionate about, and therefore from design and pop culture, trying to unite them in giving a graphic form to a story that sees a father and a daughter as protagonists.”

This isn’t the only creator-owned book that Rosenberg has coming out in 2025, as the writer moves away from the ‘The Big Two’ and his current DC project, the hit DC Vs. Vampires reaches its conclusion. “The itch to create my own stuff became overwhelming,” he said. “I have a bunch of new books coming out next year and this one will be the first of that wave.”

The book will have a gorgeous set of variant covers available to your local comic book shop, so make sure you get your orders in early, which helps your LCS out big time! The covers will feature art by Landini, Mattia De Lulis (The Cull), Josh Hood, Chip Zdarsky, not to mention Department of Truth artist Martin Simmonds and others!
