Dark Horse are set to release five new Hellboy one-shots with an array of talent starting in September. Beginning with Hellboy 1957: Family Ties, the series will wrap-up Hellboy's adventures in the 1950s, which you can catch up on with the newly released Hellboy & The B.P.R.P.: 1952 – 1954 Hard Cover.
The series of five interconnected one-shots which each tell their own tales will complete the arc charting Hellboy's cases from his first official job with the bureau in 1952. The books already look set to drip with atmosphere and feature the brilliant artwork of Laurence Campbell, Alison Sampson, Shawn Martinborough, Mike Norton and Stephen Green.
Laurence Campbell is the artist on Family Ties and brings his atmospheric feel to the page. In fact, atmospheric is the watchword for this series, especially considering the talent involved. And whilst the late '50s were a time of political upheaval for the US, it's rare to see occult / horror tales set during this period.
Campbell also provides the covers for each issue, with colours by amazing Dave Stewart (who along with letterer Clem Robins will be working on all five books) drawing you in to the horrors from the get go. Family Ties begins with Hellboy trying to track down a missing volume of Gustav Strobl's Witchcraft and Demonolgy – until he and B.P.R.D. Agent Susan Xiang become embroiled in the case of a distraught housewife, who desperately needs their help...
