It’s been nearly a decade since Civil War artist Steve McNiven pencilled a book for Marvel, so imagine the surprise when he joined C. B. Cebulski on stage at the Marvel Fanfare Panel. He also joined Charles Soule, the writer who has helped shepherd Star Wars through its High Republic era. They were there to announce not only McNiven’s return to Marvel but Soule’s return to a character he knows well: Daredevil!

Soule and McNiven will team up on Daredevil: A Cold Day In Hell, a 3-issue limited series which will debut in April 2025. Soule’s run was way back in 2015, and the pair have teamed up before more recently, for the acclaimed Death of Wolverine. The mini-series promises to retain the spirit that McNiven brought to Old Man Logan.

The series will be set in a future Marvel Universe, one that teeters on the brink of collapse. In this dark future, we meet an older, grizzled Matt Murdock. One who is no longer Daredevil and has lost his powers. But still a man without fear, Murdock does whatever he can to help those in need in a broken city beyond repair! But he battles alone… until a catastrophic accident returns his powers and Captain America entrusts him with a mission to safeguard the world’s only hope...

Charles Soule spoke to the crowd about the project: "I know whatever idea I write is going to be executed masterfully by Steve, and that level of trust allows you to take a lot of risks. It’s been a really interesting process because the way we made it is something I wouldn’t do with an artist that I didn’t have this level of collaboration and trust with. We’ve been working on this book for four years, and that time has been well spent."

McNiven added: "I started out by going why are not more people learning from Frank [Miller] and the storytelling he does. I was inspired by his work on Dark Knight Returns. To a certain degree, the structure of a 16-panel grid forces you to do different storytelling techniques."
