In April, Marvel is dropping the first issue of the brand new Amazing Spider-Man, with a brand new creative team – and they’re adding some great new variant covers to go with it!
Spider-Man is one of those characters that attracts great artists, not only for its interiors but its covers too! And this being the first issue of a new era, you can expect the cover to be stunning. In keeping with that, Simone Di Meo is just one of the artists producing variants for ASM #1, and his cover captures his vibrant and kinetic style: “This is my first AMAZING SPIDER-MAN cover!”, said Di Meo. “That’s already a great honour, but to be able to do it for a new launch by three legendary creators who I’m also a BIG fan of is even better! I’m sure that Joe, Pepe and John will do an incredible job on the series. I’ve been following all their work for many years, and they know how to weave the right webs – I can’t wait to read it!”
The cover marks a return to Marvel for Di Meo, who has been working extensively for DC Comics, most recently on covers for Batman And Robin. Following work on The Champions and The Immortal Hulk, he’s now working not just on covers, but also interiors for an as-yet-unannounced Marvel book. He said of his return to the House of Ideas for the first time in five years: “I’m really excited to be back working at Marvel. Being able to work with some of the most iconic characters in the world fills me with pride and emotion! The project we are building together is truly a dream. It will be a little longer before I’m able to talk about it, but it is something that I hope the fans will appreciate. The team and I are doing our best to create something unique. It is a new artistic challenge for me, but I love to challenge myself!”
Marvel has also tempted Lee Bermejo away from DC, where he would often create Batman covers and interiors, as well as the recent A Vicious Circle for Boom! Studios. Bermejo’s cover shows his trademark leathery texture and physical realism. Bermejo’s cover will also be available as a virgin variant, as well as the usual trade dress version.
Harking back to Spidey’s, Amazing Spider-Man #1 will aso feature a Hidden Gem variant by Gil Kane.
And in keeping with the tone of Spider-Man, you’ll also be offered a fantastic cover by Ryan Stegman!
Amazing Spider-Man #1 will be released on 9th April at your local comic book shop, so pre-order a copy now!
