In his first work as both artist and writer, the brilliant Cliff Chiang will create Catwoman: Lonely City for DC Comics’ Black Label this October.
Chiang’s work outside DC has included the Image hit Papergirls (created with Brian K. Vaughn). For DC, the artist has worked on Wonder Woman with Brian Azzarello, Zatanna, Green Arrow and Black Canary, Batman Black and White as well as several short stories in the publisher’s anthology and secret files books. On 19th October, he brings us a tale of an aging Selina Kyle in a world without her lover, Batman.
Set ten years after a massacre known as Fools Night that took the lives Batman, Commissioner Gordon, Nightwing and The Joker, we join Selina as she’s released from lengthy prison sentence. Released into a Gotham where costumed heroism has vanished, she finds an authoritarian city run by Mayor Harvey Dent and his Batcops. Selina returns with one last score on her mind and one question she needs answered: ‘Who is Orpheus?’
Chiang will not only write and draw the series, but letter and colour each of the four, prestige plus format issues, making it a real labour of love. Catwoman: Lonely City is poised to be the kind of next-level storytelling that will change the way that fans see Gotham City, its heroes, and its villains forever.
Catwoman: Lonely City #1 (of 4), Written, Drawn, Coloured and Lettered, with main and variant covers by Cliff Chiang. The first issue will also feature a 1:25 Variant by Jock. The first issue is available 19th October 2021. Check out our preview below, featuring character designs and pages from #1.
