Marvel kicked off its SDCC 2024 experience in style with their annual ‘Next Big Thing’ panel… and announced that Doctor Doom will be THE major Marvel villain for 2025!

The Latverian Sorcerer who toots as he pleases has been noticeably on the minds of comic readers more than ever recently. Working in comic shops, I’ve noticed just how many fans have been asking for Doctor Doom books. Which is a shame since Marvel didn’t really have that many in print!

Undoubtably fuelled by the upcoming Fantastic Four movie and with further accelerant being thrown on the fire by Jonathan Hickman and Sandford Greene’s Doom One-Shot, which sold out pretty much everywhere, Doom’s stock has been on the rise.

Not that it was ever low. Marvel has published several great stand-alone mini-series featuring the dictator. Hell, I’m still hoping that people will revisit the genius that was Bendis and Maleev’s Infamous Iron Man series, which Marvel republished to seemingly no fanfare last year as well as crossing my fingers for a nice Treasury Edition for the Hickman / Greene one-shot. But next year… that could be our year, folks!

At the panel, Marvel dropped the news that ‘One World Under Doom’ is imminent! This sounds like an event worth getting behind. Seemingly, this ties into the events in Blood Hunt #4 (look, I’ve not been reading it, ok?), with Doom asking Doctor Strange to hand over the title of Sorcerer Supreme to him so he can defeat the Vampire Army. And from the looks of it, Strange will do just that…

Because over in The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man, the other big upcoming Marvel event, Doom enlists Spidey as Earth’s magical protector.

So will Earth’s heroes kneel at Doom’s feet as in the image by Ben Harvey? Only one way to find out, folks!

The One World Under Doom event will run in 2025 and will be available at your local comic shop.
